Mission Foods recalls tortillas, shells,
tostadas, and chips
11/02/2000-Mission Foods, Irving, Texas,
has announced a nationwide recall of tortillas,
shells, tostadas, and chips. Over 300 products
marketed by Food Lion, Shurfine, Kroger,
Richfood, and numerous other grocers are
part of the recall. Many of the products
are packaged for foodservice distribution
as well.
The products appear to contain Bacillus thuringiensis
subspecies tolworthi Cry9C protein and the
genetic material necessary for its production
in corn (trade name: StarLink)- a pesticide
which is not allowed for use in foods for
human consumption. The FDA report is posted
